Have you ever looked in the mirror and wished you could change just one thing about your teeth? Maybe a small chip. Maybe a gap. Or maybe a tooth that has always been a little darker than the rest. You don’t have to live with those little frustrations forever. Porcelain veneers might be the answer you’ve been looking for.

What Exactly Is a Porcelain Veneer?
Think of a veneer like a thin, custom-made shell for the front of your tooth. It’s about as thick as a contact lens, usually less than 0.75mm. Once bonded in place, it looks and feels like natural tooth enamel.
Veneers can fix a surprising number of problems all at once:
- Stains that won’t budge with whitening.
- Chipped edges.
- Small gaps between teeth.
- Teeth that are slightly crooked or oddly shaped.
Instead of fixing each issue separately, veneers can tackle several at the same time.
What Makes Porcelain the Right Choice?
Porcelain has become the gold standard for veneers for a few really good reasons. First, it reflects light just like natural enamel does. That means your new smile won’t look fake or flat. Second, porcelain is tough. With proper care, porcelain veneers can last 10 to 15 years or even longer. Third, they don’t stain easily. Coffee, tea, and red wine aren’t nearly as much of a worry.
If you’ve ever wished for a “do-over” on your smile, porcelain is about as close as it gets.
What Actually Happens During the Process?
Getting veneers usually takes two visits. At your first appointment, Dr. French will remove a tiny amount of enamel from the front of your teeth. Don’t worry, it’s a very small amount, usually less than what gets removed for a dental crown. This makes room for the veneer so your tooth doesn’t end up looking bulky or unnatural.
Next, we take an impression of your teeth and send it to a lab where skilled ceramists hand-craft your veneers. The whole process takes about two weeks. In the meantime, we may place temporary veneers so you can get a feel for your new smile.
At your second visit, we’ll check the fit and color, then bond each veneer permanently to your tooth. That’s it. You could walk out the door with a completely transformed smile.
Are Veneers Right for Everyone?
Veneers are amazing, but they aren’t for every single situation. Before we can move forward, your teeth and gums need to be healthy. Any active decay or gum disease needs to be treated first.
There’s also one important thing to know: getting veneers is permanent. Once that thin layer of enamel is removed, it doesn’t grow back. That’s why we never rush this decision. Dr. French takes time to listen to your goals, explain your options, and make sure veneers are truly the best fit for you.
How Do You Take Care of Veneers?
Caring for veneers isn’t complicated at all. You just brush and floss like you normally would.
There are just a couple of small changes to keep in mind. Avoid biting into really hard things like ice, pens, or your fingernails. And if you grind your teeth at night, a simple night guard can protect your veneers.
Other than that, just keep coming in for your regular checkups. That’s it.
